What is "The Mighty Tether"?
In 2005 NASA offered an international challenge to scientists and engineers to compete with materials, and construct a hub between Earth and outer space called the Space Elevator. In response to this gigantic engineering goal, a team of aerospace scientists and technologists stepped up to the challenge. Facing-off against global competitors, this team has designed a prelude to the major component for the Space Elevator: a tether stretched 60,000 miles from Earth’s surface into space.
